MyFavorito Supports Football’s Social Media Boycott

This week the Premier League announced it would join the English Football League and Women’s Super League clubs in a social media boycott to combat racial abuse directed at players. The four-day boycott, which will begin on April 30, has also been organised in conjunction with football’s equality and inclusion organisation Kick It Out.

The four-day boycott, which will begin on April 30, has also been organised in conjunction with football’s equality and inclusion organisation Kick It Out.

Social media, while great for reaching and engaging fans from all walks of life and locations across the globe, has sadly become an enabler for racists, bullies, and trolls to target players and clubs with a tirade of appalling racist abuse. Now players and clubs are taking a stand to show these tech giants that more needs to be done.

Despite a previous social media boycott in 2019 and actionable suggestions from clubs, the response from tech giants like Facebook and Twitter has been minimal. They have clearly demonstrated that addressing racist abuse on their platforms is not a priority.

Therefore, MyFavorito not only supports a social media boycott, but suggests divesting and disengaging from these tech giants’ platforms altogether. Remove your club community and pressure these platforms to protect your players. At MyFavorito we care about sports — the clubs, the players, and the fans — and provide a platform that encourages positive interactions between fans and clubs. In the MyFavorito app, clubs have greater control over their communities; they can control who joins, reward their true fans with money-can’t-buy experiences, and easily remove users that violate community guidelines — there is no waiting for Facebook to ban or remove users. It’s time to take the power away from tech giants and give it back to sports.

We will not be posting on our social media channels from Friday April 30 to Monday May 3.
